Sharing can help reduce food waste

Here are some helpful tips for reducing waste while sharing food, whether that be a meal with friends or donating it to community members in need:

  • Serve food “family style” in dishes in the center of the table and let people take what they need and come back for seconds. That way you can store what’s left for another day instead of scraping leftovers from people’s plates into the trash.
  • If you want to reduce leftovers, ask your guests to bring a reusable container with them.
  • Do you have food in your pantry that you won’t use? Donate unopened, untouched and unexpired food to local food banks to help those in need.
